I head up our Jersey Business legal services department and am a Jersey Notary Public. I am also, at present, the managing partner of Parslows Jersey.
The Jersey Local Business department works across a number of legal areas, such as advising on business formations and on commercial contracts, as well as on commercial leases, employment law or HR issues. In fact, my team and I can assist in practically any area of law that a Jersey business requires legal assistance.
I was born in Jersey and educated to secondary level at De La Salle College.
I qualified as an English barrister (Middle Temple) in the early 1990s and thereafter came back to Jersey to qualify as a Jersey Advocate. I have been practising as a lawyer for over 20 years.
I qualified as a Jersey Notary Public in 2005.
Baron C. Ver Heyden De Lancey award from Middle Temple.
I am a regular contributor of articles to journals and other publications, such as Home Business Magazine and SME online. I also co-authored The International Protection of Adults (Jersey section).
I am the Law Society of Jersey Development Officer, responsible for the development and maintenance of the Law Society of Jersey’s IT and website, as well as the Law Library which is housed at the Institute of Law.
I am also:
“Carl has worked on several projects for me this year; he and his staff at Parslows are very efficient, professional and still retain that personal touch.” Steve Burke
“Carl has the unusual combination of being easy going but also highly efficient. He is a pleasure to deal with, positive, moves the agenda along and is very straightforward in his approach to the matter at hand. I have no doubt his business will continue to grow and prosper.” Helen Hatton
“Carl is not just a complete professional, with all the skill and experience required to handle even the most complex of cases, he is also so friendly and approachable; that is able to make the law very personal and relevant.” Mark Kevlin
“Carl and his team at Parslows assisted us promptly and effectively when securing the lease on our offices in St. Helier. They were incredibly pragmatic and balanced when providing advice; exactly what you want when engaging in any legal engagement!” Chris Clarke
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
Honestly, it is when the client says thank you for the work we have done for them. This dictates that we have given them a great service.
What Do You Like About Working At Parslows Jersey?
I know it sounds a bit of a cliché but here at Parslows Jersey we are a really solid team. Most importantly, none of us consider we work in an ‘ivory tower’ office; we are all down to earth and ready to help our clients. We know that clients look to us for advice and support and don’t want to be bamboozled with legal speak.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I have a wife and two children and enjoy their company greatly. I also really enjoy watching sport, especially rugby union (I obviously support Jersey Reds!), albeit my son has persuaded me to watch a bit of the ‘round ball’ game from time to time. I am a qualified rugby coach and assist at the Jersey Rugby academy on a Sunday morning.
