Jersey Divorce Legal Aid
Since inception, Parslows was and remains to this day conscious of legal costs relating to divorce and associated proceedings. That’s why we were the first firm in Jersey to introduce fixed fee divorce packages.
Up to 1 April 2022 it had been possible to obtain a level of legal aid for divorce and other family matters for much of the Jersey community. However, changes to Divorce Legal Aid in Jersey has had a significant impact on this provision.
Now, if you require a divorce lawyer and your income is more than £42,000.00 per year and/or you have capital of more than £63,000.00, which includes equity in a property, you will not qualify for family law legal aid.
Regardless of your income, if you do not have children, you will also not be eligible for Family legal aid for a wide range of family law matters.
Whilst, there has been a growth in the number of personal applicants submitting applications before the Family Court, people facing such issues are concerned as to whether they are disadvantaged because they perceive engaging a lawyer is too costly.
