Police Arrest | Criminal Defence Lawyers | Parslows JerseyCriminal investigation: Police Arrest

What should happen if you are arrested?

If you’re arrested the police must:

  • identify themselves as the police
  • tell you that you’re being arrested
  • tell you what crime they think you’ve committed
  • explain why it’s necessary to arrest you
  • explain your rights
  • explain to you that you’re not free to leave

If you’re arrested you’ll usually be taken to a police station, held in custody in a cell and then questioned

When in custody at a police station, you are entitled to free criminal law advice and representation, no matter what the time of day. If you find yourself arrested, it can be a highly stressful situation that can have life changing consequences.
